Being a teen can be tough. You’re not quite an adult, but you’re definitely not a kid anymore—you’re “under 21.” It can be especially frustrating when living in a foreign locale, especially one as small as Okinawa. Under21, (U21) is a magazine geared toward SOFA-status teens aged 13 to 18, and its purpose is to improve the quality of their lives on Okinawa. Designed with teens in mind and written in a language that speaks to them at a peer level, U21 is a “friend” that takes teens by the hand and says, “Let me show you.”
Several local teen interns and models were also part of production, so a majority of the magazine was created for teens by teens. U21 provides teen-friendly information on anything from how to use the public transportation system and how to find a job, to hangout spots and cultural awareness. It’s also a good source for teens who need help with difficult situations but aren't quite sure where to look.
